A Cuban American’s Guide to Miami’s Little Havana
Master cantinero and co-owner of Café La Trova, voted one of the world's best bars, gives his top tips on how to explore Little Havana.
The Wynwood Walls project began in 2009 with the goal of revitalizing the community and the bland exteriors in this former warehouse district. Today, the project has expanded outside of its original area and onto other buildings in the neighborhood. The exhibition is a stop during many Miami tours, including art-focused walking tours and itineraries that focus on the best of Wynwood. The grassy area between the murals also hosts lectures, special exhibitions, and signings.
This outdoor exhibition is exposed to the sun; make sure to bring a hat and wear sunscreen.
Flat concrete paths make the site accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
The large exhibition space offers plenty of room for kids to run around in.
Wynwood Walls is located at 2520 NW 2nd Avenue, between Joey’s Italian Cafe and the Wynwood Kitchen and Bar. Most visitors arrive by car (there is parking nearby) or as part of a guided tour of the neighborhood. The exhibition is close to several of the neighborhood’s popular restaurants, cafés, and bars.
Wynwood Walls is open daily from late morning until late in the evening and is especially popular on weekends. To avoid the crowds, visit on a weekday. Because Wynwood Walls is an outdoor exhibition, it can be very hot around midday, especially during the summer.
Art lovers may want to check out the on-site shop, which stocks a range of gifts, books, and prints, most of which were created or inspired by the artists whose work is on the Wynwood Walls. Popular souvenirs include coffee table books, water bottles with artistic designs, notebooks, and coloring books for kids.
