We have done several food tours and I felt that this was one of the best we have every done. The walk through local streets with a little history, while eating amazing high quality local delights.

Local Food Tour - Not to Be Missed!
Janet_M
, Jun 2022
Rudolph Kempers, from Amsterdam Food Tours, was an outstanding tour guide, funny and knowledgable. He brought us to great places to try food that locals from Amsterdam eat. A highlight for us was trying the herring and Indonesian food. Between the stories and the ample samples (Come hungry!), this walking tour is not one to be missed! Rudolph is a proud Amsterdam local who knows his history and his food!

Learn all about Jordaan neighborhood and Amsterdam history while eating amazing food. Made stops at all the best places and tasted everything Amsterdam has to offer. What more can you ask for? Lots of drinks too. Tour guide was pleasant and funny and you can tell he loved Amsterdam and it’s fine cuisine.

Must do this tour!

In March we visited 7 locations and sampled apple pie, herring, eel, cheeses, sausages & cheeses, gelato, bitterballen and poffertjes. A walking food tour was also such a great way to see and learn about the city. Our guide was Rudulph - who was very funny, engaging, and a wealth of information. He had to manage a group of 7 friends who wanted to sample the alcoholic drinks at many of the stops, and he was very accommodating of our party energy. I highly recommend this tour and I highly recommend Rudulph.

How else can you discover these secret little restaurants and cafés, these family-owned stores that spent decades perfecting their trade? Find time to go on this tour.

Thank you Anastasia, I agree taking our food tour is indeed one of the best ways to do so :)

Great food tour in Jordaan. Rudolph was great and super insightful. The roasted sausage was my favorite part! We went on a Monday, so some places weren't open, but the replacements were great! Highly recommend.

Thank you and please come back another time for some more 'grillworst' !

Food tour with a side order of art history
Darryl_D

In addition to explaining the foods and their role in the Dutch culture, the local architecture, and the history of Amsterdam, Rudolf (who had been an art history teacher) provided us with a much appreciated lesson on Rembrandt’s ‘The Night Watch’.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Thank you Darryl, we love to bring always something extra to our tours except food and history so it is great to learn you now know more about Rembrandt as well!

Rudolph was a great guide with a keen sense of humor. We had some tasty items including “to-die-for” apple pie and fried cod. We learned a lot about the culture and architecture

Fun time exploring food, drink, & culture in Amsterdam!

We had a wonderful time with Rudolph as we walked around the Jordaan district and stopped at many local eateries. The tour size of 7 people (3 of us plus two other couples) was ideal and made it more personal. We loved sampling the wide variety of food and drinks that the tour offered. We especially liked sampling smoked herring and eel and learning the art of “worshipping gin”! All of establishments that we stopped at were well prepared for our group and were an integral part of our tour as they added in their perspectives and experience. Rudolph was very open to talking about life and culture in the Netherlands. We had many great discussions and learned a lot during our 4+ hour tour. There was plenty of food so we could only eat a small dinner that evening. We always enjoy getting acclimated to a new city with a food tour and this one did not disappoint. We highly recommend it.

The history, the food, the guide were all wonderful. Couldn’t have asked for a better tour. Loved the small size, the variety of food and the knowledgable guide who gave a little extra

Best food tour that I have been on

The best food tour I have done!!! Food tours are my go to in a new or old city visit. In my opinion food tells us so much about the culture. This tour is worth your time and money. The variety, quality and serving sizes were amazing. Your tour guide will be a local and is very knowlegable about his city. We had fun while we ate our way through the city and learned so much. Come hungry as you will get the opportunity to try lots of different kinds of foods and beverages
icon Response from Host , May 2022
That is a big compliment Karen, thank you so much!

Our small group food tour in Amsterdam was a great experience. Our guide, Rudolph, was knowledgeable, considerate and fun! He readily adjusted the information he provided to our questions and dealt with the addition of a vegetarian to the group with ease. We tasted an amazing variety of food and drink while wandering around the Jordan neighborhood of Amsterdam. From small, historic coffee shops full of character (and a delicious apple pie) to the bustling open market with amazing fritters and Satay, this was a wonderful tour, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for history, local color, information and meeting new people with curiosity about food and looking for an adventure. Don’t make dinner plans after this tour; you will leave full!
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Hello Julie, thank you for your great review! We love to bring our guests to the best food spots available each day so I am happy to read you liked the Saturday market so much. And yes your advice is a good one: don't make dinner plans afterwards :) !

Must do Amsterdam tour!!
Kathryn_W

Great tour. Our tour director was the owner (ask for him), so knowledgeable about not only Dutch foods but of the cheeses, beers, restaurants and history of Amsterdam/Holland plus a really nice guy. It was a pleasure to walk and talk with him for 4 hours. TIP: Try to book activities (e.g., museums) directly where you can. Trip Advisor just adds hefty fees and their links don't open when you get there which museums confirmed happens frequently.
icon Response from Host , May 2022
Thank you Kathryn and it was a pleasure to have you on the tour, after all it is our guests who make the tour as well!
