Herrenchiemsee Palace Rail Trip from Munich

We enjoyed meeting people on our tour from around the world as well as from home! The small train and boat ride to the islands made this a unique experience. We really enjoyed visiting the Women’s Island as well as Herrenchiemsee Palace. It was a lovely day, and the scenery was beautiful! Our guide, Stephanie was very personable and made everyone feel welcome.

We went on this tour feeling we didn't have to worry about time management. Our guide was wonderful Susanne. The company that was extremely unorganized. Gave an address but not there name that was on the building. Said in the instructions to look for lots of windows.??? There was lots of people everyone wasn't sure where to go. Then needed sandwich signs to display each tour. Having a back issue we had to stand for 2 hours waiting for a train. I could have done this tour on my own if l wanted to be frustrated. We ended up losing our guild and there was another family who was lost with us. The train should be scheduled to people on tour. Not just being spread out all over. I would suggest to have colored stickers on so they guild could at least recognize her tour. We also where told we had an hour on the female island. It was 30 mins and didn't have anytime to go to the gift shop just the church.The palace itself was beautiful and so was the second island.

We could have done this trip ourselves using our 9 euro travel card and just getting off the train and paying the entrance fees No value for money

Michelle was our tour guide, knowledgeable, fun day all in all. The area is beautiful. It’s a full day…train ride, short steam train trip, boat ride and enough time for snacking and a meal on the island!

We had a great time with our guide, Stephanie. She had her hands full with managing a group composed of people with differing walking abilities but she did it well. Stephanie was very knowledgeable about the places we saw, the people that lived there, and the events that occurred around them. I will say, this is a walking tour. So, if you have limitations in that area, maybe don't book yourself on this tour. The walking is mostly flat, but you still need to be able to walk at a decent pace. If you have mobility issues, it is possible to do this excursion yourself from Munich and then you can take the horse-drawn transportation option from the docks to the palace. Due to the extra wait times for this option, it's not really feasable for a group excursion like this one. As there is a guided tour on site not let by the guide from this tour company, you would still get the same experience for the palace portion of this excursion. I also recommend bringing water and sunscreen as you will be out in the sun quite a bit (depending on what season you're traveling). There are several different places to buy food and water but at least on the Island with the palace, those places only accepted cash.

I really want to give this a 5 star review. It was our favorite experience in Bavaria (much better than Neuschwanstein IMO, but do both of you can just for the scenery). And our guide Michelle was lovely and filled with information/stories about the palace and King Ludwig II. After this tour I had a much more nuanced understanding of him than the previous “mad king” (which evoked Game of Thrones mental imagery). I am docking one star because I was disappointed at the lack of transparency of the pricing. Taking the boat ride is critical to this tour as it’s the only way to get to the islands. This at least should be included in the ticket price. It was an unpleasant surprise to have to pay an additional 23 euros pp to cover the cost of the boat trip and palace tour when we went to check in. Had it been included in the tour price that wouldn’t have been a problem. The palace tour is 100% worth it by the way if you’re considering skipping it. Another bit of feedback is to skip the monastery in order to give more time for the second island Frauemchiemsee. The palace was wonderful but we all wished we had more than one hour at the second island to explore all the quaint alleyways and stunning views of the lake and mountains.

Great day with our engaging tour guide Franz. Easy flowing day with information, top tips and help with lunch selection too! All the sights seen with time for individual viewing. Guided very well on the train. Just book it!

We went on a rainy day, but the castle, monastery, and nunnery were still lovely and a lot less crowded than they usually would be. Our tour guide Susanna was very knowledgeable and helpful, really going above and beyond during our tour.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and really told the story well. The only issue was the tour guide didn't have great time management and we ended up back in Munich much later than expected. Overall I wouldn't let the time issue hold me up from recommending this to anyone.
