Worst tour guide ever, at what should have been a deeply moving experience
Dylan_N
, Jul 2022
While visiting a place with such tragic and important history was deeply moving, we had the worst tour guide I’ve ever experienced on our trip. Our guide spoke incredibly quietly, with little enthusiasm and failed to give much more than recounted Wikipedia paragraphs. She also failed to give us much time to look around and seemed bothered when asked questions. We all left very disappointed and robbed of what should have been a much more carefully presented and profound experience. The museums and info/plaques around Terezin saved this from being a total waste of money. I would strongly recommend visiting Terezin, but would think twice about booking through Viator, if this is the level of quality control they display when filtering their tour guides.

Important learning experience

Visiting Terezin was a very emotional experience. I have known about Terezin since I was a child. Seeing how people were treated was different than hearing stories and reading books. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in learning about the worst treatment possible and then actively working to make sure it never happens again to anyone.

The small fortress is the best part of this tour. You get history about WWII but also history dating back much further. Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable.

A mini bus picked us up. It was nice to be a small group. The guide was very nice and informative. Theresienstadt was very touching. We had a four year old with us and it worked just fine. I could recommend this trip. We wish the bus would have AC - it was warm. Bring water!

Overall, it was a very informative trip. The guide in the camp was passionate about history so it was interesting to hear him talk about it. The coach was comfortable so overall it was a nice trip.

Talking to our coach guide as we walked, an opportunity for questions. She was knowledgeable, informative, but made no effort to interact. OK, probably the right approach for guides.

Special, overwhelming, with a lot of interesting details and background. Putting things in the proper perspective.

It was a very special trip, with a very high quality guide, that was really knowledgeable and she (Sarah) was really open for questions. It was all clearly explained and a good balance between content and duration.

Emotionally hard but essential tour

This day was well worth my time. The tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Terezin. This part of our world history is necessary for everyone to know and understand. It's a hard emotionally taxing day, but in these hard polarizing times it is so important that we remember our darkest side and never ever repeat it.

Great trip. We went as a couple and felt that we learned more about the holocaust history. The groups was small with many stops so we felt that the time was well used. Very memorable to see the actual prisons and ghettos with our own eyes. Recommend to go for everyone

Nice but long!

Nice tour and a good experience to visit. However the tour was a bit to long and to much information from the guide. It would have been Nice to have Some time for your self to look around.

An indescribable experience

The fact that we stood in a physical space that was once occupied by such blatant, orchestrated and breathtaking hate was enough to chill the bones of any man, woman or child to pass through the gates of Terezin Concentration Camp.

Poor tour guide

The location itself, the history, and official descriptions provided by signage within Terezín, the museum, and crematorium were excellent and had previously been a very moving experience. Our tour guide, however, on the 12:45, 12/22/21 booking, was brusque, often rude, and rushed our group through the experience. We unfortunately never did catch her name but I will say that she was a barrier to fully engaging in the Terezín experience. From yelling at tour members, providing incorrect or unclear information, and lacking empathy throughout tour, she is the main reason for this low rating. Terezín itself is a MUST for anyone visiting the Prague area.

Sofia the great

Very good trip. Good value for money too. Sofia was very knowledgeable and passionate, as was the local tour guide. Only tip I would give, would be to bring some food and drink as I didn't see anywhere to get food on the trip. Luckily I had food with me and didn't go hungry. It could a long journey back to Prague in traffic if you were hungry

Important history that should never be forgotten. I highly recommend this tour. The guides were MOST knowledgable. There is SO much history to be seen and absorbed. I am thankful that I am alive now and here and not born then and there.

Book this Outstanding Tour with Helen ! You won't be disappointed.

I took the tour on Sept. 15, 2021. Helen was the guide for the 6 hr. tour beginning at 12:45 to the Terezin Concentration Camp. I was the only one on the tour. While this was my third visit to Prague, I had never been to the Terezin Camp. Luck was with me on the day of the tour as most importantly, Helen was the tour guide, and the few others who also booked the tour did not turn up. (The dark cloud of CoVid lingered.) Helen was a positively exceptional guide as her knowledge was both broad and deep. Helen did not waste a minute in conveying information regarding the trade routes, the derivation of the word "ghetto", when the star was used to identify Jews etc. I found the facts Helen spoke of so informative that I started taking notes in the car. I was happily riveted to everything Helen passionately spoke of. My only disappointment was that the tour ended. How wonderful it would have been to have continued to learn from Helen. Kudos to Helen as she made the tour !! How fortunate Viator is to have Helen offering tours on their behalf ! This was my ideal of an outstanding tour !! I could not have more pleased.

The Woman who led the tour was amazing, spoke multiple languages and had a wide knowledge of the camp, Prague and Czechia. The bus left straight on time and we were all very well informed of where we were going and what we would be doing. I personally think this is a fab tour, great value for money- Could not of asked for anything better :)
