My American friends and I met up in Strasbourg to visit the oldest Christmas market in Europe. One of the things we like to do when we travel is a food tour and we found the Do Eat Better on a travel site. I booked it using the Delta Shopping portal to earn bonus SkyMIles. The last time I was in Europe - in the Before Times - we did a tour with the Do Eat Better people in Palermo Sicily and had high expectations.
We had good communication from the office that included instructions on where to meet and a photograph of our tour guide. They also sent a text message reminding us the day before of the time and location. When we arrived a few minutes early, Marie was there and waiting. A few minutes later, the others in our tour arrived and our party of six (four Americans and two Canadians) started off.
We had stops for wine with croquets at our first stop, a plate of ham with sausage and sauerkraut at the second (a full dinner plate), samples at a cheese shop, a flatbread with pears for dessert, and finally, more samples at a gingerbread shop. Along the way, Marie pointed out cultural spots and told us about herself and the history of city where she lives. Marie's English was excellent and we had no trouble understanding each other. She was great!
Overall, a very positive experience with quite a lot of food and drink. a great tour of some of this wonderful city and a wonderful time. Marie also provided us some on-point restaurant recommendations that ranged from Chinese to Italian to, of course, Alsatian.
NOTE: In November 2021, you absolutely must have a Pass Sanitaire or one of the equivalent European COVID QR codes, either printed or on your phone. We were all checked at every restaurant we visited as well as the Christmas markets in France and Switzerland.
